Our Methodology

Last updated: May 29, 2026

Transparency about where our numbers come from, so you can trust — and verify — what you see.

What rate we show

Every rate on ExchangeConvert is a mid-market rate — the midpoint between the buy (bid) and sell (ask) prices that financial institutions quote each other on the global foreign exchange market. This is the same reference rate reported by major financial news outlets. It is deliberately not a retail rate: it contains no markup, which makes it the fairest benchmark for measuring what a bank or transfer service actually charges you.

Where the data comes from

We aggregate rates from established foreign-exchange data providers. When our primary source is temporarily unavailable, the system automatically falls back to a secondary public source so the figures you see remain current. Historical charts are built from daily closing rates over the selected period (30, 90, or 365 days).

How often rates update

Live rates refresh approximately every hour. The currency market trades 24 hours a day on weekdays, so rates move continuously during the week. Because the interbank market closes over the weekend, Saturday and Sunday figures reflect Friday's closing rate and will not change until trading reopens.

Cross rates

For pairs that are not quoted directly, we calculate a cross rate via the US Dollar — the world's most liquid currency. For example, a rate between two smaller currencies is derived from each currency's rate against USD. This is standard market practice and keeps less-common pairs consistent with the major ones.

Accuracy and limitations

We work to keep our data accurate and timely, but rates are indicative and provided for informational purposes only. The rate you are ultimately offered by a bank, card network, or exchange service will differ because of their markup and fees. ExchangeConvert does not execute currency exchanges and does not provide financial advice; always confirm the live figure with your provider before making a transaction. See our Terms of Service.

Editorial standards

Our explanatory content — currency profiles, conversion guides, and per-pair analysis — is written and maintained by the ExchangeConvert editorial team. Statistics such as 30-day highs, lows, averages, and volatility are computed directly from the historical data on each pair, not written by hand, so they always match the chart you see. We update our guidance as market practices and provider fees change, and we welcome corrections via our contact page.
